Okay, here I am if you’re curious. Welcome to my personal soapbox! Grab a coffee and join in. Please, you’re very welcome.
When I was ten, a smart-arse teacher wrote on my report card, “Denise has an insatiable urge for conversation.” Hmpf! Some might say I’m a chatterbox. I say I’m a communicator, all right? And so are we all, simply because we’re human, so please join me! Talking to readers and fellow writers is what keeps me going.
You can find out more about me than is probably good for you on the Bio Page on my website, but I guess all you need to know for the time being is that I write erotic romance, fantasy and paranormal, for Ellora’s Cave, Avon and Berkley. And that I’m an Aussie. Which brings me to the title of this blog…
Why Under and Over?
Well, you see, when I came to think about it, I realised that while I’m Down Under, most of my readers and my writing friends are Over There.
I thought it was clever. And of course, there are all manner of sexy connotations if you put your mind to it…
There’ll be interesting posts and guests and prizes and stuff to make you giggle and make you think. Posts for readers and for writers. I won’t be blogging every single day though. I can’t do that and stay sane, I’m sorry. Not if I’m supposed to write books for you to read and talk to my family and keep up with the day job. Let alone live Life with a Capital L.
I’m aiming for every second or third day and I promise to reply to comments. I was brung up right.
I remain an incurable romantic. I love happy endings, heart-pounding adventure and the eventual triumph of good over evil. All hail the guys in the white hats, I say - unless the ones wearing black are more…um… interesting?
I relish the beauty of language and I love sex sensually and lavishly described — especially if it’s hot and sweaty! The sexual act can be used as a lens to focus on raw emotion. The reader sees the characters naked and not only physically. All the masks are stripped away and the soul is bared, whether the character knows it or not. It’s enormously powerful and it absolutely fascinates me. Don’t they say the most important erogenous zone is the one the between the ears? Page after page of docking procedure leaves me cold. That’s not erotic romance.
