Tupperware = UFO

Posted by Denise on May 8, 2009 under Life, Quirky

I can never find any of the lids to my Tupperware containers. Yes, they live in a cupboard, but it’s a low corner cupboard and I have to bend right down to peer into it.  Therefore, I can NEVER seem to find the square lid that I need for the square container - only the round one. I’m convinced those pesky lids go skipping off somewhere like teeny-weeny flying saucers.

So here’s an interesting scientific study on where Tupperware lids get to.  Don’t miss the most gorgeous video of a puppy playing with Tupperware too. Scroll down a tad.

We all know I’m the Queen of Procrastination ruling over the Land of Clutter - because I say so frequently. But is it only me? When you open the cupboard door, do your lids line up like soldiers and salute?.

  1. Elaine Said,

I hate my plastics cupboard. Pieces always get separated even though I put them away together. They end up stored at an angle so when I open the door or put something else on top it all topples over. I’ve got to the stage where I don’t even put my most used pieces away. I stack them on top of my dishwasher, containers in two piles in front, their lids stacked vertically behind them. I can see them clearly, recognise the matching pieces and reach them easily. I’ve given up trying to keep the benches clear - as long as I can find what I need without mounting a national search.

You’d think this method would have left my plastics cupboard half empty at the very least - but no. It’s still clutter heaven in there and I still dread opening the door. And don’t anyone dare mention that dirty word ‘clean’. I’ve been there, done that. I’ve tried lid containers that stick to the inside of the door so I don’t lose the lids, but the containers kept falling off the door and dropping the lids on my foot. Even with weekly cleaning of the cupboard, there was no improvement. I think the whole thing is a conspiracy to keep me stressed and occupied so other members of the family can do what they want without me giving them jobs to do!

  2. Dani Said,

ROFL! I have the same problem as you Denise. I can never find anything unless I’m on my hands and knees because it’s usually in the very back of the cupboard. We even have those holders for the lids that Tupperware sells too and still they get lost. It’s really sad. We end up adding plastic containers that we get take out in because they can be used for smaller items and that makes the clutter worse. I’ve threatened to just throw everything out and start over in a different and smaller cupboard. I’ll probably never do that though, but someday I just might get mad enough to. LOL!

  3. Jenny Said,

For some reason my Mom (who I live with) has always stored the lids in one cupboard and the containers in another. Don’t ask me why it’s just always ben that way. The real fun with this method is the tops never match the bottoms either colour or size!

  4. mary de Said,

oh dear! talk about being the square one out
I’m a tupperware junky(or is it freak)…not only are most of my plastics IN USE
ALL the time but left-over-buddies are all in their place in the cupbaord just waiting for their big break to stardom

  5. Denise Said,

Ah Elaine, you give me hope! Well, not hope actually. Just the comfort of knowing I’m not the only one. I tried those door lid-holder thingies too. *sigh*

As for the clutter - I wonder if Tupperware and wire coat hangers are related via some arcane branch of evolution.

  6. Denise Said,

Know what you mean about the take-away containers, Dani. They really are very convenient - particularly because I feel have no real financial investment in them, unlike Tupperware. Wonder if they’re related to wire coat hangers too?

  7. Denise Said,

Oh Jenny, how disappointing! For a minute there I got really excited. *sigh*

  8. Denise Said,

Mary, I’m in awe. Wouldn’t mind betting we all are. Bowing down before the Goddess of Tupperware…
