Today, a good friend of mine, let’s call her R., goes to hospital to have a breast removed. This is a woman who has defined what courage is all her life, right from the time she was a little girl and life kicked her in the teeth. True courage is feeling the fear, but doing what you have to do, day after day, year after year. She’s done that.
R. has gained so much in this life, all that is precious - a loving, supportive husband, truly a man for the long haul, three grown children with successful lives of their own. A wide circle of friends.
Is she scared? Of course, she is. Are we scared for her? Of course, we are.
Will she get through this? Of course, she will. The prognosis is excellent. Unfortunately, the time before it comes true is pretty shitty.
Can I ask you to keep her in your thoughts today? Pray, send healing light, positive vibes. Whatever you can do. We are all interconnected, I truly believe that. It all helps.
Thank you.

One thing we do in the bible belt is pray. i will gladly add her to my list along with you, her husband and her children.
I’ll pray for her and send best wishes and positive energy her way!
Sending lots of good vibes for your friend.
Thank you so much, every one of you. You guys are the best.
R. is one of those people who proves to you that anything is possible - day after day. She’s the strongest person I know and I’ve been thinking of her all day. Thank you, Denise, for this post. It’s a beautiful, thoughtful thing to do.
I’ll keep your friend and her family in my thoughts and prayers.
Denise, your friend is in my prayers. She already has the best support with you as a caring friend. My friend had a double/M 5yrs ago, and she is out there enjoying life with us FRIENDS!
Thank you again, all of you. Mary, I LOVE to hear stories like that! Your friend is an inspiration.
I’ll keep her in my thoughts. I had a friend go through that hell last year. I’m happy to say she’s cancer free and back in the swing of things. We ARE all connected.
I have to tell you all, R. is my current heroine for courage and class. She’s the best! And Denise is right, her hubby is true hero material. Except they live in the real world and not some book, so their courage is real.
Jordan, this is exactly what we need to hear. Thanks for helping.
Yep, they’re a class act, Alison. Thanks for dropping by.
Tough times ahead, as you say, Denise, and my heart goes out to R. and anyone else facing breast cancer surgery and treatment. Been there, done that, now call myself a survivor. To all those who’ve bought something ‘pink’ to support breast cancer research, your dollar might have saved R.’s life, as well as mine - so thankyou. R. has my prayers, and also you, Denise, because I know it’s hard to watch someone you love go through this.
My thoughts and prayers to R and to those that love her. I hope, with these prayers, to lend my strength when they might need a little.
Malvina, I’m sure only someone who has gone through it really understands the full impact. I remember your dark days and I’m so very, very glad you’re better. It’s more than just surviving, it’s triumphing. I imagine you look at life more than a bit differently now. Thank you so much for your comment.
Joann, thank you and welcome to Under and Over. These are strong people, and I’ve since heard that R. came out of surgery doing fine. But - it’s a long haul and every prayer and loving thought helps. So thanks again.
Yes R is indeed one of the strongest and most courageous people I know. And I am with you in sending her positive thoughts and prayers. Malvina, you’re an inspiration as is a friend of mine who has gone through treatment this year.
Denise, I think R will be very touched by this post. Hugs to all.

Eleni, I think you’ve touched on something very important - the human capacity for compassion and connection. Simply knowing that others have been through it and understand in that real and special way, well - it must make a difference.
Hi Denise
Thanks to you and everyone who sent their positive thoughts and prayers. I have such a great life. and now the sugery is behind me,I’m on to bigger and better things. I’m so grateful to have a strong supportive family and a core group of friends who believe in my strength an abilites to survive. I’ve had encouragement from people I don’t know and to be honest, that humbles me. Again, thank you for your encouragement. It’s supported me though this ordeal. R
R., my dear, you are incredibly welcome. Least we can do.
