I suspect this story of an extraordinary reunion isn’t new. In fact, I’d say it’s been around quite some time, but I hadn’t seen it before and I thought it was absolutely remarkable. To see such unabashed joy and affection between man and animal almost reduced me to tears. I thought you might enjoy it.
The two English guys in the right adopted a lion cub and brought it up for a year. (I have no idea why.) But once the animal reached maturity, they were no longer permitted to keep it. They did the right thing and settled in an wildlife sanctuary in Africa.
A year later, they returned to see Christian the lion, and were told the animal would not remember them. Have a look at what happened next. (The picture quality is a little grainy, but persevere, it’s worth it!)
Have you experienced affection like this from an animal? Perhaps you get a greeting like this every day when you get home from work? Our dog turns herself inside out for My Beloved after every parting, no matter how brief. Me, she’s quite fond of.

That was beautiful and very moving. I’m a big animal lover and would do anything I can for one.
We have 2 cats that I love very much and I always get a headbutt (or two) from them when they want to be loved on. Of course then they settle in beside me and purr to let me know they’re happy and they love me. We also have a dog that is just absolutely ga ga over my mother. When she comes in the house he goes bizerk and starts running around her and wiggling all over. It’s a riot to watch.
Hi Dani. Yes, I thought it was beautiful - the look on the lion’s face when he worked out who they were was priceless! Aaaah…
My cat’s into head-butting too. He’s only a little guy (I’ll post about him one day), but gosh, when he needs loving, you can end up seeing stars!
Oh my, that was beautiful! *wipes tears from eyes*
Yes, my big cat is good for head-butts too. He actually launches himself so you have to be careful he doesn’t get you in the nose LOL!
Lyn, my friend! You are so welcome here. The world needs all the talented cover artists it can get.
Yes, it’s a beautiful piece of film, isn’t it? I got all teary too. A pity there’s no soundtrack. I can imagine Christian growl-purring his joy and the guys getting all choked up.
Our other cats weren’t nearly such big head-butters. They were more ecstatic tummy-kneaders.
Ouch! But little Merlin? Like yours, he’s positively dangerous.
Oh, that was gorgeous wasn’t it. I have a very fiesty American Staffy who would play all day with us if he could. Hanging out the laundry - you may get half a basket done in peace and then he thinks it’s play time. He buts his head against my leg and has tennis ball in his mouth — so subtle
Our previous dog was a rottweiler and he was gorgeous - one day when I was really sick, he came up to me and just licked my face. A big softie.
Eleni, it’s no wonder dogs are such a hit as companion animals in facilities for those who need extra care. They can be such a comfort. There’s a great deal to be said for unconditional love.
So true Denise - I think studies have shown that people with pets live longer (on average) than those without. Though the training stage is tough to get through
But even then they can do something to have you in stitches.
